Mango Mango
We just pushed a new release (code-named Mango) earlier this week. The majority of the changes were performance enhancements and additions to our commercial API - things that are behind the scenes for most of you. However, users of Jumpcut.com should see snappier performance on the website, particularly on the Home Page and in the Explore section of the site.
In addition to the technical stuff, we did add a couple of neat new features:
Views From Other Sites: Now you can see the number of views each movie is getting from other sites where it’s embedded. The stats are in the Details section of each movie page and include a link to the site where the movie is embedded. The total view count includes views from other sites.
Reply To Comments: You can now reply to comments on Jumpcut! Just click the [reply] button next to any comment and say what you want to say. We’ll notify the author of the comment that you’ve responded. No more page surfing to communicate!
If you’re new to the site, be sure to check out our Multi-File Flash Uploader / Auto Movie Generator. It makes uploading and moviemaking a breeze. Click on Upload in the top nav bar and then “multi-file flash upload”
That’s it for now. The team is cranking on a new release that’s packed with features for the website. Stay tuned and keep making movies.

Did you make any changes for IE 7? I seem to remember it didn’t work with IE 7 before but it does now. Well, playing the movies does, I haven’t tried using your edit interface with IE 7 yet.
Also, thanks for the great product.

Thanks Scott. If movies didn’t play before, and now they do, it sounds like you must have installed Flash 8 (or 9). You should be able to use the editor as well.

I really appreciate the views from other sites and being able to reply to comments. here are some other things I would like to see:
1. an undo function
2. the titles shouldn’t move when you make cuts (they should stay where you originally wanted them)
3. make it easier to coordinate with music (may be an advanced function)
also, the shortcuts are awesome, and very intuitive. I wish I had paid attention to them earlier. Maybe make them easier to find, and some how encourage people to use them. It makes making a movie faster and easier and you are less likely to get carpel tunnel.
Other than that, I am having so much fun on Jumpcut, and you guys have a great thing going on, I am excited to see what’s next!

Adria is talking about the keyboard shortcuts in the editor. You can find a full list of these shortcuts by moving your mouse over the [?] at the bottom right of the editor window.
We’re also working on changes to the editor to make titles more stable when moving tiles around. Stay tuned.

I have a few more suggestions/questions:
I think it is not obvious enough what “give love” isand how you give it or get it. When I first started using Jumpcut it took me a while to figure it out, and my friends are alway asking me about it, or don’t know that it exists.
Second thing: Your algorithm for the popular page is really weird. It seems like sometimes a really popular video with lots of love and views will be there, and then it will disappear after a few days, whereas a video with less love and less views will stay up way longer. What determines what order the popular videos are in, how they get there, and how long they stay there?
Third thing: I have some friends that just started using Jumpcut but they are confused and scared and intimidated about the editor, so they haven’t made any movies yet. Maybe you could have a video tutorial. I just noticed that you already have one, but maybe you could make it so it is the real editor, more in depth, and not a black and white drawing.
Keep up the good work. Jumpcut has really impressed me and entertained me so far!

You mentioned a commercial API in your post. Is this an API programmers could use to incorprate Jumpcut video editing into their own applications?
If so, the potential for awesome mashups would be great! Keep up the good work!

Hey Matt . . .
Right now, our commercial API is focused on providing a way for other websites to incorporate Jumpcut technology. Check out our partners page (http://www.jumpcut.com/partner) for more info.
